The James Hardie Building Products siding and soffit products: Hardiplank® lapsiding, HardiflexÔ panel, Hardipanel® siding, Harditex® baseboard, Hardisoffit® panel, Hardishingle® cladding shingles, Hardishingle® notched panel, and Hardipanel® shiplap, comply with ASTM-C1186, Standard Specification for Grade II, Type A, Non-Asbestos Fire-Cement Flat Sheets.
The James Hardie Building Products siding and soffit products: Harditrimr® XLD® board complies with ASTM-C1186, Standard Specification for Grade I, Type A, Non-Asbestos Fire-Cement Flat Sheets.
The James Hardie Building Products lining board and underlayment products: Titan® panel, Hardibacker® backerboard, Hardibacker® underlayment, and Titan®-FR panel, comply with ASTM-C1288, Standard Specification for Grade II Discrete Non-Asbestos Fiber-Cement Interior Substrate Sheets, and with ANSI-A118.9 as cementitious backer units.
The James Hardie Building Products lining board and underlayment product, Hardibacker 500® backerboard, complies with ASTM-C1288, Standard Specification for Grade II Discrete Non-Asbestos Fiber-Cement Interior Substrate Sheets, and with ANSI-A118.9 as cementitious backer units.

The James Hardie Building Products interior lining product, Hardibacker® (Hardibacker 250®) underlayment, conforms to the requirements of ISO-8336 for classification as Category 3, Type B.
The James Hardie Building Products interior lining product, Hardibacker 500® backerboard, conforms to the requirements of ISO-8336 for classification as Category 2, Type B.

The James Hardie Building Products interior lining product, Hardibacker® (Hardibacker 250®) underlayment, conforms to the requirements of EN-12467, Fibre-cement flat sheet – Product specifications and test methods, for classification as Category C, Class 3.
The James Hardie Building Products interior lining product, Hardibacker 500® backerboard, conforms to the requirements of EN-12467, Fibre-cement flat sheet – Product specifications and test methods, for classification as Category C, Class 3.
CAN/CGSB
The James Hardie Building Products siding products: Hardiplank® lap siding, HardishingleÔ cladding shingles, and HardishingleÔ notched panel, conform to the physical properties requirements of CAN/CGSB-34.4 Siding Asbestos-Cement, Shingles and Clapboards except that Hardiplank lap siding comes in 144" & 168" lengths with varying widths from 5-1/4" to 12""; Hardishingle™ cladding shingle come in lengths of 18” and widths of 6”, 8”, 12”; and Hardishingle™ notched panels come in lengths of 16”, 19” and a width of 48”.
The James Hardie Building Products siding product, Hardipanel® siding, conforms to the physical properties requirements of CAN/CGSB-34.17 Sheets, Asbestos-Cement, Flat, Semicompressed except that density is 1320 kg/m3.
CAN/ULC-S102
The James Hardie Building Products siding and soffit products: Hardiplank® lap siding, HardiflexÔ panel, Hardipanel® siding, Harditex® baseboard, Hardisoffit® panel, Hardishingle® cladding shingles, Hardishingle® notched panel, Hardipanel® shiplap, Hardibacker® 1/4" underlayment, comply with CAN/ULC-S102, Method Of Test For Surface Burning Characteristics Of Building Materials And Assemblies. Their ratings are as follows: FSI = 0, SDI = 0.
CAN/ULC-S114
The James Hardie Building Products siding and soffit products: Hardiplank® lapsiding, HardiflexÔ panel, Hardipanel® siding, Harditex® baseboard, Hardisoffit® panel, Hardishingle® cladding shingles, Hardishingle® notched panel, Hardipanel® shiplap, and Hardibacker ® 1/4" underlayment, comply with CAN/ULC-S114, Standard Method of Test for Determination of Non-Combustibility in Building Materials.

3. Wall Insulation: Where no insulation is shown in the design, fiberglass batt insulation may be added.

4. Gypsum Wallboard/Sheathing Installation: Unless otherwise specified, gypsum wallboard shall comply with CAN/CSA-A82.27 or ASTM-C36, and gypsum sheathing shall comply with CAN/CSA-A82.27 or ASTM-C79. When gypsum wallboard/sheathing is oriented vertically, edge joints shall be centered on wall studs. Screws shall be spaced minimum 3/8" from board edges. Screws at top and bottom channels shall be spaced 2" from vertical edges in corners. Gypsum wallboard face layer joints shall be taped and filled with minimum 2 coats of joint compound. Screw heads shall be filled with joint compound or finishing compound.

5. Fibre-cement Board Panels: The Designs indicate the minimum product thickness. Thicker products of the same type may be used. Fastener length shall be increased proportionately when thicker products are used. Ceramic tile may be installed over interior fibre-cement board products. When non-tiled fibre-cement board panels are fastened directly to framing members, joints shall be taped and filled with minimum 2 coats of gypsum joint compound. Screw heads shall be filled with gypsum joint compound or finishing compound. When tiled fibre-cement board panels are fastened directly to framing members, the joints in cement board panels shall be bedded and taped with standard latex-modified thinset mortar and glass fiber mesh joint tape. Ceramic tile shall be bonded with standard latex-modified thinset mortar.

1.Steel Studs: Minimum 3-5/8" depth, 20 gauge (0.0359") galvanized steel studs, spaced 24" oc maximum, with corresponding top and bottom tracks.
2.Gypsum Wallboard/Sheathing (Base Layer): 1/2" Type X gypsum wallboard or gypsum sheathing for exterior wall applications, applied horizontally or vertically and fastened with minimum 1" Type S drywall screws, located 24" on floor and ceiling runners and intermediate studs. Base layer wallboard joints staggered 24" from those of base layer on opposite side of studs.
3.Fibre-cement Board (Face Layer): 1/4" thick Titan® panel or Hardibacker® backerboard (for interior wall application), or Harditex® baseboard (for exterior wall applications), applied horizontally or vertically over gypsum wallboard and fastened with 1-5/8" long by 0.323" HDC-drill screws, located 8" oc on floor and ceiling runners and intermediate studs. Face layer panel joints staggered from those of base layer by 24". Face layer joints taped with joint tape and 2 layers of gypsum joint compound. Screw heads filled with gypsum joint compound.
